On March 16, Megan Hernbroth of Axios, Jason Abbruzzese of NBC News Digital, and Catherine Boudreau of Insider shared their thoughts on the Silicon Valley Bank crisis, what catches their eye in a pitch, and which stories are affecting sustainability and climate tech. Scroll down for 3 key takeaways for pitching sustainability and climate yech journalists below and register here to watch the recording.
1. Every Journalist is different; get to know the journalist's work before pitching them and pay attention to how they prefer to be approached. By paying attention to their preferred method of approach, you can increase the chances of successfully pitching your story and building a long-lasting relationship with the journalist.
2. Funding is not always a newsworthy story. An antidote is adding the company's narrative within the current climate industry. Talk about your pain points and what you currently do to navigate around them to find solutions. Share your solutions and the people behind them.
3. Find out how climate legislation intersects with your company and major news events when pitching. For example, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the most significant climate legislation in U.S. history, offered funding, programs, and incentives to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy. Leverage these news moments to showcase how a major story connects with your company.
